Josh Pastner Hired to Be Memphis Coach

April 7th, 2009

Memphis has tapped Josh Pastner to be Tigers’ new basketball coach. Pastner was formerly an assistant under John Calipari, who is now an ex-coach of Tigers. Bob Winn, the school’s athletics spokesman said that the university would announce the new appointment of Pastner at the news conference that is scheduled for noon Central Tuesday.

Calipari is Kentucky’s new basketball coach after spending nine seasons as the Tigers’ Coach.

Pastner is regarded to be a strong recruiter. He worked under Calipari for one year. Pastner was a former player and an assistant coach at Arizona.

PastnreĀ  already has some credit. When he was an assistant to former Arizona coach Lute Olson, the Wildcats averaged 23 wins per season, captured two Pac-10 regular season titles, advanced to two NCAA Tournament regional finals and made six-straight NCAA Tournament appearances.
